The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule.

Your Responsibilities

John Deere Construction & Forestry (C&F) in Moline, Illinois, is looking for a motivated student with communication skills to apply solutions to real-world problems. You will:

C&F Factory Communications (75%)

Develops, coordinates and integrates various communications media to share business-related information with unit employees to ensure understanding of business goals and objectives and how these objectives align with the division and enterprise strategy.

  • Production employee startup meeting talk sheet and unit news:
    Conduct interviews, take pictures and write stories for publication in newsletters for our production and salaried employees focused in Davenport and Dubuque, Iowa.
  • Digital signs:
    Monitor and update the X2O digital signage deck, including creating new slides on a regular basis and working with departments to update regular features, such as the safety report and employee milestones. Assist new locations as they onboard X2O.
  • Bulletin Boards:
    Update the bulletin boards on a weekly basis or as needed. This includes creating and printing posters to communicate unit information about events, safety, CI, and milestones.
  • Facility communications and meetings:
    Support facility communications and meetings as to the communications specialist as needed using various tools, such as email, digital signs, posters, and Everbridge.
  • Other:
    Assists with other communication activities as needed.

C&F Division Communications (25%)

Develops, coordinates and integrates various communication media to share business-related information with global C&F employees to ensure understanding of business goals and objectives and how these objectives align with the division and enterprise strategy.

  • C&F John Deere Online homepage:
    Keep content refreshed on the homepage, update standing features, and work on departmental requests for announcements or updates to links on the page.
  • John Deere Online stories:
    Write feature articles on C&F events or achievements from the Davenport and Dubuque facilities that merit a broader audience and publish them on JDO.
  • Other:
    Assists with other local and global communication activities as needed.

Skills and Knowledge

  • General understanding of communications planning processes and measurement techniques
  • General understanding of communication theories, especially employee/internal communications
  • Ability to use standard desktop applications such as Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS Forms, and OneDrive
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good interpersonal and team communication skills
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and deploying projects

What It Takes

  • Ideally you will be pursuing a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in communications, marketing, English, journalism or equivalent field; others may apply
  • Must be registered as a full-time student at a four-year university
  • Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
  • Graduation date of May 2022 or later
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Approximately 15 hours/week during the summer and academic year
